Volcanoes
30,000+ feet from the bottom of the ocean (Mt Everest is 29,000+) and 13,500+ feet above land, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa are massive - you feel the size visually. Unlike the Cascade mountain range in the West coast (Mt Ranier, Mt Shasta, Mt Hood), these don't rise majestically like a cone. Instead, they are broad and they dominate the landscape and weather patterns.
The road in between the two peaks is like a saddle of a horse, called the Saddle Road and connects Kona and Hilo. See the island picture below.

Leilani Estates - a beautiful neighborhood in eastern side of the island. Kilauea crater's bottom fell out, the lava drained out from the bottom and came out many miles on the side of the volcano - right in the middle of Leilani Estates in 2018.
